Style Bibles
Basically to market a concept which is a character such as Peter Rabbit, Garfield, Precious Moments, Barney, Bob the Builder, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Rug Rats etc it is important to create what we call a style bible which introduces the character and ancillary characters in a way which everyone viewing the literature understands everything about the concept.

The bible should include a short synopsis of what the essence of the idea is. Next the key characters should be depicted giving brief descriptions of their character traits and how they relate to each other in any special ways if appropriate.

Next you need some good illustrations depicting typical artwork for specific products which you feel the artwork is suited for. Illustrations of other potential products showing how the artwork can be used on other products is also useful.

If the concept is intended for children’s books and possible animation then storylines are important. Thirteen is a good number to start with. Just fifty words or less for outlines will suffice.

Note; If your characters are developed simply as illustrations with no real story then it is not necessary to follow the above outline exactly but it will help you to think more about character development and perhaps create stronger content.
