Art has always been a
passionate and integral part of Kim Walker’s life. It was, however,
during her college experience that she discovered her unique painting/mixed
media approach to creating her compositions. She received a Summa Cum
Laude Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting in December of 2001 from Arizona
State University.
Inspired by the insight and wisdom of life’s experiences and
the metaphoric lessons in nature she realized the two must go hand
in hand in her paintings. Kim’s compositions combine items found
in nature with numerous layers of multihued pigments. Her work captivates
the imagination as you go in motion with the various depths and nuances
of each viewpoint. An original poem accompanies all of her work.
“Painting is my passion. It allows me the quiet and thoughtful
internal dialogue that refreshes my spirit. For me, there is no greater
beauty than what God has already provided. It can be seen in every
aspect of nature from the tiniest petal to the outreaches of the heavens.
My artwork takes me on a spiritual journey as I seek and collect each
item in the natural world. The gathering of the materials is as important
as the process of creating each composition. Most pieces are done on
either domestic or exotic woods from all parts of the world. I treasure
both the metaphoric and the tangible connections. By incorporating
natural elements into my work my desire it to provide another way to
view this beauty that might otherwise have been missed”. Poetry
is another aspect of each piece. The work either inspires a poem or
a poem inspires the work. “I once read in a book by Rebecca Wells, “use
everything in your life to create your art.” This intention is
at the heart of my paintings and my poetry.”
