Zigen Tanabe

Born in Toyama Japan in 1970 Zigen entered Art School at eighteen where he studied painting and illustration. As a freelance illustrator he was commissioned to produce artwork for advertising campaigns as well as work for magazines in Tokyo. In 1999 he started seriously to study the original brush method thereby inheriting the traditional art of Japan. In 2000 he started to exhibit work in the USA and now lives and works in New York State.

“ Sentences are traditional fine arts in Japan which Japanese people have inherited as public property. I believe that the most important thing for me is to focus on how to create these sentences into a new world’s public property through combining and experimenting without being influenced by any drawing techniques or fashion.”
